Some Information about Lledo

Lledo was founded by Jack Odell O.B.E. (Lledo in case you had not already noticed, is an anagram of Odell) and the first models became available in the summer of 1983.  Lledo is unique in the respect that their models are more formula based, than the actual marque types and liveries used in reality.  Although cheap and cheerful, these models have been responsible for starting out many junior collectors.  A lot of their work also involves promotional material (most of which is "farmed out to Stevelyn company of Watford who are famous for their View Vans and Collectable Souvenir items) for hundreds of museums and and public venues the length and breadth of the UK and  and its in places like this that many future collectors make their first contact with diecast modelling.  While I am the first to admit that manufacturers such as EFE, OOC, Britbus and CMNL produce more accurate diecast models, there is still a place in this hobby for Lledo models.

When first starting to collect Lledo, one of the main difficulties the collector will encounter, is the complete lack of catalogue numbers on all the early releases.  Catalogue numbers are I'm afraid to say only a relatively recent addition.  In the Lledo photo gallery on this website many of the items displayed, are described by their livery as no definitive numbers are readily available.  Below is a diagram of models used in the early days (and the present) which acts as a guideline on how some of these early catalogue numbers were arrived at.  For example, a "Days Gone" model of a 1923 AEC Regal Single deck coach would have the prefix "DG" (for Days Gone) 017 indicating the casting used.
